New at PCBC 2014: Professional Builder hosts the mountainside retreat, a 534-square-foot studio that combines a closed-off bathroom with a galley kitchen, living and bedroom space in an open-loft floor plan. Built by Utah-based Irontown Homes and designed by architect Jason Kerwin of OKB Architecture in Los Angeles, the studio achieves minimal maintenance and increased energy performance through innovative design, sustainable materials, natural finishes and large anodized, thermally broken windows. Sophisticated features abound in this rustic modular structure, including an energy recovery ventilator (ERV) and a ductless mini-split HVAC system for ultimate temperature control.
The Ultimate Kitchen, unveiled at Show Village during IBS 2014, is designed by Wendy Johnson, project designer with Designs for Living. Displaying products in a working environment, the Ultimate Kitchen incorporates an abundance of natural daylight, a low-energy, high-efficiency induction cooktop, a glass breakfast bar, terrazzo concrete countertops, and aging-in-place conveniences that deliver spice racks and a television with the push of a button. The kitchen’s focal point is the gallery sink, a spacious sink, countertop and food prep island that also accommodates seating. Featuring modern, clean lines, the Ultimate Kitchen offers a light, bright and peaceful environment.
